PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rico Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bembol Oblaks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rico Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bembol Oblaks!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos misses with a takedown attempt - Oblaks sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Oblaks gets the takedown into side control.
Santos misses with an elbow from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santos is looking to reverse the position.
Santos manages to work his way to half guard, despite Oblaks's best efforts.

Oblaks wants to work for an arm triangle but Santos is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Oblaks is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Oblaks is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Oblaks sitting in guard here, content to control.
Oblaks wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving.

Santos has his foot on Oblaks's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Oblaks works his way back into a safe position though.

Oblaks drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Oblaks jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Santos knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Oblaks on the ground.

Santos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Oblaks can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Oblaks is looking to stand up but Santos won't let him.
Oblaks trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Oblaks is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Santos knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Oblaks has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Santos moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Santos throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Oblaks misses with a double jab
and Santos counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Oblaks misses with an uppercut. Santos saw that one coming.
Santos throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Oblaks's waist but Oblaks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Santos off to one side.
Santos swats away the attempt to clinch by Oblaks.
Santos avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Santos misses with a few strikes there.
Rico Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Santos scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Oblaks trying to control from the bottom.

Oblaks actively working from the bottom here.
Oblaks is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Santos wants to control but Oblaks is keeping him busy.
Oblaks makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Oblaks.

Oblaks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Santos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bembol Oblaks dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Santos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Oblaks sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Santos somewhat.
Santos shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Oblaks as he avoids it easily.

Santos drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Santos has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Oblaks looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Oblaks pulls Santos in to control the position.

Oblaks is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Santos is aware though and is defending well.

Oblaks is trying to keep Santos in close.

Santos seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rico Santos.
Oblaks slaps away a takedown attempt from Santos, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rico Santos. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Oblaks throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Santos tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Oblaks is in Santos's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Oblaks pushes down on Santos's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Oblaks is working for a submission of some sort.
Oblaks stops Santos from getting back to his feet.
Oblaks is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Santos!
Santos can't escape the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Oblaks can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Santos is looking to escape.

Santos has left one of his arms exposed and Oblaks doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Santos screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bembol Oblaks!
