PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jizzy Krup (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Schaefer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ben Schaefer told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jizzy Krup!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ben Schaefer!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Paul Aken and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Krup shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Krup showed some decent athleticism there.
Schaefer regains full guard. Nicely done.
Schaefer wants to sweep here but Krup controlling him for the moment.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Krup wants to pass the guard but Schaefer is keeping the position.
Schaefer looking for a sweep. Not yet Schaefer, not yet.
Krup trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Schaefer manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Schaefer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Krup swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Krup is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Schaefer off and has taken his back!

Schaefer sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Krup uses his free foot to push down on Schaefer's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Schaefer.
Schaefer is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Schaefer sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Schaefer is looking for a sweep. Krup is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Krup moves nicely into side control.

Krup tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Krup has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Krup thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Schaefer managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Krup.

Krup is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Schaefer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Krup throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Krup tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Schaefer tries to buck Krup off but Krup is having none of it.
Schaefer wants to control but Krup postures up.
Schaefer manages to work his way to half guard, despite Krup's best efforts.
Schaefer is looking to improve his position.
Krup tries to stand and escape but Schaefer is controlling the position.

Krup is thwarting Schaefer's attempts to control the position.

Krup is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Schaefer has managed to free his arm - good work.
Schaefer gets back to full guard.
Krup wants to pass the guard but Schaefer is keeping the position.
Krup slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Schaefer gets back to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Schaefer is looking to control Krup's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Schaefer avoid being mounted?
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Schaefer is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Krup's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Krup's back!

Krup is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Schaefer gets his way!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jizzy Krup will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Krup shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Schaefer manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Schaefer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Krup is aware though and is defending well.

Schaefer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Krup's guard.

Krup wants to stand but Schaefer is controlling the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ben Schaefer wasn't active enough on the ground.
Krup throws a good cross that connects.
A combination from Krup does no damage.
Schaefer has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Schaefer there as he acknowledges the shot.


It looks like Ben Schaefer has been cut.
Jizzy Krup seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Krup misses with a hook. Schaefer ducked under it nicely.

and Schaefer makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Ben Schaefer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jizzy Krup will probably get the nod.

Schaefer is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Krup has his hands clasped together but Schaefer extends an breaks Krup's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Schaefer.
