The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, jab by Russell - just one landing.
Russell throws a series of punches but Monteiro avoids them all with ease.
Russell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Russell tries to clinch but Monteiro moves out of range.
Russell works over Monteiro's head and body with a nice combination.
No luck for Monteiro with that takedown attempt.

Russell looks to land a combination. Monteiro sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Russell takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Monteiro is rocked!
Monteiro tries to move into range but Russell moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Oh Monteiro is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Monteiro has Russell pressed against the cage, preventing Russell from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Russell lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Monteiro or not.

Monteiro takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Russell feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Monteiros jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Russell darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Russell lands a jab to Monteiro's midsection.

Russell clinches up against the cage.
Russell wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Russell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Monteiro has him pressed against the cage.
Russell is trying to break the clinch but Monteiro is controlling him.
Monteiro prevents Russell from breaking the clinch.
Monteiro drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Russell lands a left hand that snaps the head of Monteiro backwards.

Shaun Russell seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Russell feints with a jab and clips Monteiro right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Monteiro is sent crashing into the canvas and Russell leaps in for the kill! Monteiro tries to get to his feet but Russell is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Monteiro is in need of a savior and steps in!
