PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Haye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez has chosen Danza Kuduro as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, David Haye!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Antonio Mendez!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Mendez, right into the meat.
Haye takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Haye missing with a left hand there. Mendez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Haye swings for the body but Mendez moves out of range.
A thudding body kick lands there by Mendez!
Mendez throws a head kick that misses.
Good leg kick by Mendez there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Haye throws the left hand but Mendez avoids the punch easily.
Haye uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mendez.
Haye swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Haye throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Haye slips under a jab from Mendez.
Mendez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Haye misses with a looping right.
Mendez goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Mendez lands a nice hook to Haye's body. Haye takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
No joy there for Mendez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A slapping leg kick lands for Mendez.
Both fighters circling a little - Mendez finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Mendez shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Haye eats them both and turns towards Mendez to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
No joy there for Haye, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mendez throws a head kick that Haye semi-blocks.


It looks like David Haye has been cut.
Mendez fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Haye has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Mendez fails to land with a series of punches.
Mendez moves away from the strike by Haye.
Haye is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mendez.
Mendez throws a leg kick which misses Haye's front leg but catches the back leg as Haye tries to avoid it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mendez throws a nice looking combination but Haye bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Haye stuns Mendez with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

A jab from Haye misses.

Haye takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Antonio Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Haye works Mendez's body with a nice hook.
Mendez looks gassed!
Haye scores with a nice right hand.


It looks like Antonio Mendez has been cut.
Mendez pivots, looking for a leg kick but Haye is out of range and Mendez settles back down.
No joy there for Haye, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Haye connects with a looping right hand.
Haye scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Haye lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Mendez sprawling to the canvas. Haye follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Mendez hang on?


Mendez is rocked!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Nice strikes from Haye there.
Mendez is still in real trouble! Can Haye finish him?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez blocking the ground and pound attempt from Haye.
Haye with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Mendez seems to have recovered his senses.

The ref stands the fighters back up because David Haye just wasn't active enough.

Haye drops his shoulder and cracks Mendez with a huge uppercut! Mendez goes down! Can Haye finish him?

Haye keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Haye's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Haye throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Haye slows the pace down in half guard.
Haye thows a huge punch but Mendez dodges it nicely.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

David Haye has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Haye connects with the punch.
Mendez throws a nice head kick!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Haye dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mendez throws a series of punches but Haye moves out of range.
Haye misses with an uppercut.

Mendez throws the kick towards the body but Haye avoids it.
Haye misses with an uppercut.
Mendez buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Haye lands a glancing blow to the side of Mendez's head.
Mendez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Haye.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Haye! Mendez is backing up but he can't get away as Haye lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Mendez and ends the fight. Great knockout.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). David Haye!
David Haye got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
