Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nishi Denoro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Whitaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nishi Denoro has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nishi Denoro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Whitaker!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitaker tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Denoro swivels and escapes.
Denoro's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Denoro duly obliges.


It looks like Sam Whitaker has been cut.

Denoro drives through and clinches with Whitaker against the cage.

Denoro gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Whitaker looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Whitaker tries to roll over but Denoro keeps him under control.
Denoro not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Denoro is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Whitaker defends it well.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Whitaker misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Denoro throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Denoro postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Whitaker to stand up.
Whitaker dives in and grabs Denoro's left leg, looking for a takedown. Denoro pushes down on Whitaker's head and hops out.
Whitaker looks gassed!

Denoro takes the fight into the clinch.
Whitaker misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Denoro.

Denoro's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A punch combination from Denoro misses.
Denoro leaves Whitaker with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nishi Denoro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Whitaker.

Denoro postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Denoro tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Denoro has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Denoro has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Whitaker!

Denoro is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Whitaker to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Whitaker shrugs it off.

Denoro got a little sloppy there for a moment and Whitaker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Denoro has managed to get both his arms back between Whitaker's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whitaker wants to sweep here but Denoro controlling him for the moment.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Denoro postures up in Whitaker's guard and throws a big left but Whitaker blocks it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Denoro is looking to work some ground and pound but Whitaker has wrist control.

Whitaker is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Denoro defends well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Denoro jumps guard but Whitaker stands there with Denoro around his waist. Denoro gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Denoro has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Whitaker is trying to keep an underhook but Denoro manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Denoro thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Whitaker is looking to improve his position.
Denoro missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Whitaker is trying to maintain the position but Denoro is very close to passing his half guard.
Denoro trying to control the action but Whitaker is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Denoro is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Whitaker is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Denoro decides to stand and escape the position.
Whitaker shoots for a double leg takedown but Denoro sprawls well. He's pushed Whitaker's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Whitaker tries to score a power double leg takedown but Denoro sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Whitaker somewhat.

Whitaker goes for a takedown attempt but Denoro pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Denoro is trying to trip Whitaker. He has hold of a leg but Whitaker is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Denoro persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Whitaker bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Denoro's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Whitaker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Denoro gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Denoro decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Whitaker, up you get!

Whitaker shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Denoro as he avoids it easily.

Denoro throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Whitaker was covering up waiting for the punch and Denoro finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Denoro gets to his feet. Whitaker looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Whitaker tries for a takedown but Denoro sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
No luck for Whitaker with that takedown attempt.
Whitaker shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Denoro but Denoro pushes him off and we're back to square one.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Denoro enables Whitaker to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Denoro manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Denoro accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Whitaker drops back, looking for a kneebar! Denoro looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Denoro looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Denoro!
Nishi Denoro is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Denoro wants to control but Whitaker is keeping him busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nishi Denoro.
Well Denoro has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
