PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alan Mael (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Brown Hewitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mael comes to the ring accompanied by It's Not All About You. Hewitt comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Stricken by Disturbed kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Thomas Brown Hewitt told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alan Mael !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Thomas Brown Hewitt!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hewitt looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Mael !
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Mael in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Mael is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hewitt can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mael is looking to escape.
Hewitt scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Hewitt postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mael looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mael manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Hewitt is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mael is trying to maintain the position but Hewitt is very close to passing his half guard.

Hewitt cracks Mael with a big right hand but Mael just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Mael takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mael is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Hewitt is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mael knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Hewitt working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Mael seems a little lost for a moment, as Hewitt dominates the positioning.

Mael is trying to control Hewitt's posture but Hewitt avoids it.
Mael is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hewitt is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Hewitt is trying to get an arm triangle but Mael is defending well.
Check out the look on Hewitt's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Mael gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Mael manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Mael finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Mael tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Hewitt manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Mael tries to lock up and control but Hewitt gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hewitt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mael . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hewitt tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mael knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Hewitt wants to free his trapped foot but Mael is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Hewitt is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Hewitt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mael keeps working.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hewitt is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mael is just riding it out for now. Hewitt eventually gives up the hold.

Hewitt winds up and cracks Mael with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Thomas Brown Hewitt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mael 's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Hewitt shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mael napping and manages to drive through into side control!
You can see the frustration on Mael 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hewitt wants to control but Mael is keeping him busy.
Mael is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hewitt off and has taken his back!

Mael is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Hewitt is defending well though. Mael let's go of the attempt for now.

Mael is trying to stick to Hewitt's back but Hewitt is turning into Mael . He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mael 's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Hewitt.

Mael had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hewitt defends it easily.

Mael got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hewitt has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mael has managed to get both his arms back between Hewitt's legs - danger averted.

Mael drops back looking for a leg! Hewitt is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hewitt manages to kick Mael off! Mael jumps back into Hewitt's guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hewitt connects with a nice short shot to Mael 's temple.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Mael gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Hewitt has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Mael to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Hewitt is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Mael pulls down on the head and he's put Hewitt to sleep! This one is all over!
