PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Whitey Cline (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Whitey Cline!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matt Guy!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cline gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Guy misses with an uppercut.
Guy with a hook.
Guy lands a body shot.
Guy lands with an overhand left.
Guy fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cline looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cline closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Guy quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Cline is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Guy has managed to free his arm - good work.
Guy keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Cline is trying to control the action in half guard but Guy is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Cline wants to work for an arm triangle but Guy is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Cline is working for a kimura but Guy is defending it quite comfortably.
Guy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cline. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cline looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Cline is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Cline is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Guy is just riding it out for now. Cline eventually gives up the hold.

Cline is looking for a kimura but Guy is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cline to get the leverage.

Cline wants to stand up but Guy is controlling the position.

Cline is looking to take a break and control but Guy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Guy looks like he's trying to stand up.

Cline seems to be looking for submissions.

Cline is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Guy sees it coming and defends easily.

Cline is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Guy doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cline.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Whitey Cline dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Cline closes the distance and clinches up with Guy, looking for a takedown. Cline pushes Guy against the cage but Guy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Cline shoots in looking for a takedown but Guy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cline's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cline on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Guy connects with a body shot.
Guy scores with a body shot.
Good standup being displayed there by Guy as he connects with a hook.
Cline throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Guy's waist but Guy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cline off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Whitey Cline. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Guy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cline moves away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Guy scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
A cross from Guy lands.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Guy bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Cline's head.
Guy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Matt Guy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Guy connects with a good right hand that stumbles Cline. Cline circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Guy misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A combination from Guy does no damage.
Matt Guy seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A looping hook to the body misses from Guy. Cline does a little dance to reset his feet.
Guy bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Guy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Guy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cline was well out of range. Poor timing from Guy.
Cline shoots for a double leg takedown but Guy sprawls well. He's pushed Cline's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cline.
Guy has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Guy thuds a left hand into Cline's body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd cheers as Guy lands an impressive looking overhand right. Cline doesn't seem phased though.


Cline is rocked!


It looks like Whitey Cline has been cut.
Cline leaves his chin hanging out and Guy seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Cline crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Matt Guy!
