PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Diego Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dingo Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn comes into a darkened arena with his song building. deftones-simple man kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Diego Sanchez!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dingo Penn!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez lands a jab to Penn's midsection.
Sanchez scores with the left hand. Penn knows he should have avoided that one.
Sanchez connects with a right hand. Penn shakes it off.
Penn takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Sanchez connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Penn's hands.
Sanchez throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Penn on the side of the head.
Penn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sanchez circles away.
Sanchez scores with a sloppy right hand. Penn should have avoided that one.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sanchez dips to his left and cracks Penn with an uppercut!
Penn with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Sanchez to score with a decent uppercut.

Penn throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sanchez's waist but Sanchez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Penn off to one side.
Penn is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sanchez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Diego Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dingo Penn.
Penn avoids a punch combination nicely.
Penn shoots in for a double leg but Sanchez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sanchez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sanchez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Penn tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sanchez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Penn somewhat.
Sanchez explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Penn shoots in for a takedown but Sanchez shows good takedown defense.
Sanchez is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
A nice leg kick lands there from Sanchez.
Sanchez lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Sanchez swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Penn.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sanchez punishes Penn's body with a nice straight punch.
Sanchez lands the left hand.

Sanchez connects with a good right hand that stumbles Penn. Penn circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Sanchez is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Sanchez with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Penn is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Penn gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Penn shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sanchez sprawls well. Sanchez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
Penn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sanchez circles away.
Sanchez is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Decent striking displayed by Sanchez there.
Diego Sanchez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sanchez tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sanchez to the ground. Sanchez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sanchez scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A right-left combo lands from Sanchez.
Penn doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Penn looks for a takedown but Sanchez sprawls well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A punch lands to the side of Penn 's head but he takes it in his stride.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diego Sanchez dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A left and a right from Sanchez both land. Nice combination.
Penn takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Sanchez uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Penn might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Sanchez has got the better of the exchanges.
Penn fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Penn takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Sanchez scores with a hook to the body. Penn takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Sanchez dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Penn. That did some damage!
Penn is trying desperately to land a takedown but Sanchez is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Penn.
Sanchez connects with a good right hand that stumbles Penn. Penn circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Penn takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Sanchez.
Penn is breathing heavily.
Sanchez lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Penn has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Penn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sanchez circles away.
Diego Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dingo Penn.

Penn fails with a takedown attempt.
Penn takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Sanchez lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Penn shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sanchez sprawls well. Sanchez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
Sanchez lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


Penn is rocked!

Sanchez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Penn.
Sanchez lands a jab to the nose.
Sanchez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Penn can do to turn this around?
Penn gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Penn is still on wobbly legs! Can Sanchez finish him?
Sanchez swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Penn seems to have recovered his senses.
A shot to the liver by Sanchez. Beautiful body shot.
Penn needs to keep his hands up - Sanchez had a free shot at his head there.
Sanchez connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Penn tumbling to the canvas! Sanchez pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Penn was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Diego Sanchez!

Diego Sanchez decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
