PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Magne Midgard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergei Ak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Midgard comes to the cage accompanied by Crazy Train. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Magne Midgard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergei Ak!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Fedor Mirinova and Dmitry Maklakov.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Midgard throws a front kick aimed at Ak's knee but Ak avoids it well.
Midgard throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ak sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ak with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Midgard throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Ak walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Ak displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Midgard throws out the jab.
Sergei Ak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ak looks to score with a jab to the body but Midgard is just out of range.
Midgard scores with the left hand. Ak knows he should have avoided that one.

It looks like Sergei Ak has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Midgard misses with a straight left.
Midgard tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ak swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Midgard takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Midgard doesn't manage to clinch there - Ak circles away.
Ak shoots in but no luck this time.

Ak changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Midgard tries to avoid it but Ak manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Midgard to the ground. Midgard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Midgard takes a swing at Ak's ribcage but misses.
Ak throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Midgard avoids the body shot from Ak.
Ak misses with a hook. Midgard ducked under it nicely.
Midgard throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Midgard.
Ak throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Midgard tries to clinch but Ak is having none of it.
Midgard lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ak pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Ak misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Midgard gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Midgard lands an elbow that stopped Ak in his tracks for a moment.
With the fighters up against the cage, Ak throws an elbow but misses.

Ak has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Midgard avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Magne Midgard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sergei Ak.

Ak breaks the clinch.
Midgard does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Midgard tries to close the distance and clinch but Ak swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Midgard lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Horrible takedown by Ak or perhaps it was just good defense by Midgard which made him look bad.
Ak takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

That has opened up Sergei Ak's cut even more.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Ak.
Ak takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
A slapping body kick lands there for Midgard.
Magne Midgard is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ak closes this distance looking for a takedown but Midgard circles away.
Ak uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Midgard.
Ak throws a body kick the misses
and Midgard counters with a nice uppercut.
Midgard tries to close the distance and clinch but Ak swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ak shoots for a double leg takedown but Midgard sprawls well. He's pushed Ak's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Midgard misses with a body kick.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Ak crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Midgard - the referee stops the clock and Ak gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Midgard. Ak manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Midgard lands a front kick.
Midgard looks to land a left hand but Ak moved out of range nicely.

Ak throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Midgard.
Ak jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Midgard doesn't manage to clinch there - Ak circles away.
No joy there for Ak, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Midgard swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Ak.
Midgard scores with a sloppy right hand. Ak should have avoided that one.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ak is defended easily by Midgard.
Ak connects with a right hand. Midgard shakes it off.
Ak is trying desperately to land a takedown but Midgard is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Ak.
Ak misses with an uppercut. Midgard saw that one coming.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A nice inside leg kick there by Ak. That's going to slow Midgard down.
Ak takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Ak throws a sloppy head kick and Midgard moves out of range easily.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Ak slips a nice elbow through Midgard's hands, connecting with Midgard's forehead.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Midgard is trying to stand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ak is pressing down on Midgard's thigh, looking to free his foot. Midgard is holding on for now.
Midgard tries to roll over but Ak keeps him under control.
Midgard wants to sweep but Ak has passed to side control!
Midgard is trying to control Ak's posture but Ak avoids it.

Ak tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ak has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Midgard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Midgard is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Ak goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Midgard rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Ak's guard! Nice work there by Midgard!
Ak manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Midgard manages to get himself to full guard.
Midgard pulls Ak in close to his closed guard and prevents Ak from doing any damage or advancing position.

Ak tries to free his leg and advance position but Midgard is retaining full guard.
Midgard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ak is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Midgard is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Midgard has escaped and now he's on top!

Ak has his foot on Midgard's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Midgard works his way back into a safe position though.

Ak has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Midgard is working away from the top position though.

Midgard uses his free foot to push down on Ak's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ak.
