PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leonardo daVinci (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Helio Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Helio Gracie told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Leonardo daVinci!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Helio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
daVinci stuffs the takedown attempt from Gracie. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
Nice defenses there by Gracie.
daVinci pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Gracie moves out of range of the body kick.
daVinci cracks Gracie with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

It looks like Helio Gracie has been cut.
Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from daVinci.
daVinci slaps away a takedown attempt from Gracie, before circling back to the center of the mat.
daVinci misses with a wild body shot.
daVinci looks to land a body kick but Gracie moved away.
daVinci throws a poor cross that misses

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but daVinci is retaining full guard.

Gracie passes daVinci's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gracie moves into full mount! daVinci won't be happy about that!

Gracie thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Gracie wants to control the pace but daVinci is squirming around nicely.

BOOM! Gracie connects with a massive shot to the dome!

daVinci is in all sorts of trouble here.
Gracie throwing strikes here but daVinci is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Gracie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but daVinci is surviving well by controlling Gracie's body position as best he can.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
daVinci tries to get back to half guard but can't.
daVinci is trying to get to the ropes to help him get back to his feet.
Gracie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Gracie has control of daVinci's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and daVinci regains control of the situation pretty easily.

daVinci is trying desperately to improve position.
daVinci regains half guard.
daVinci tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.
daVinci is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. daVinci swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gracie passes daVinci's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Gracie wants to free his trapped foot but daVinci is holding on for dear life with his legs.
daVinci works his way to full guard. Good work.
daVinci is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gracie ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
daVinci misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

A jab from daVinci misses.
daVinci throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and daVinci defends it well.
daVinci is trying to get back to full guard.
Gracie passes the guard and advances to mount!
Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as daVinci is looking to escape.
daVinci sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
daVinci wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
daVinci tries to kick Gracie off but Gracie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

daVinci on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Gracie postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for daVinci to stand up.
Leonardo daVinci seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
daVinci looks to land a left hand but Gracie moved out of range nicely.
Leonardo daVinci is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
daVinci moves in looking to clinch but Gracie pushes him off.
daVinci misses with a low kick.
daVinci tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gracie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
daVinci throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Gracie works his foot free and advances to mount.
daVinci knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.
daVinci is wriggling around trying to escape.

Gracie stands up from mount. Strange move.

daVinci takes the fight into the clinch.
daVinci lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Gracie is trying to drag daVinci to the mat but daVinci just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.
daVinci misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Gracie is looking for a takedown.
Leonardo daVinci has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Helio Gracie.
daVinci is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.
daVinci gets underhooks to prevent Gracie's takedown attempt.
daVinci makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
daVinci digs a right hand into Gracie's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Gracie's gas tank.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

daVinci throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
daVinci misses with a shot to the kidneys.
daVinci lands with a light punch inside.

A close second round but Helio Gracie will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

daVinci throws a half hearted mid kick.
Gracie takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

daVinci throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Gracie stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. daVinci follows into mount!

Gracie is rocked!

daVinci has hold of Gracie's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gracie manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gracie is still in real trouble! Can daVinci finish him?
daVinci with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Oooooh, big shot lands for daVinci! Gracie is hurt baaadly! daVinci is firing away with more strikes - Gracie is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
