The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That kick from Fernandez tenderised Shields's leg. Shields is trying to keep his angry face on.
Fernandez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Fernandez scores with a head kick. Shields tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Shields shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Shields throws some wild stikes that Fernandez manages to avoid easily.
Fernandez tries to buck Shields off but he can't manage it.
Shields sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Shields postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Fernandez looks a forlorn figure.
