PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michal Materla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Naglis Kaunietis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Materla comes to the cage accompanied by Sobota feat. chór Montu - Do góry łeb (prod. Matheo) . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Materla lands with a good body shot.
Materla tries to clinch there but Kaunietis circles away.
Kaunietis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Materla avoids it really well and circles away.
Materla wants to clinch up but Kaunietis keeps it at a distance.
Materla will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kaunietis showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Materla.
Kaunietis shoots in looking for a takedown but Materla manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kaunietis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Materla shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Materla stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Materla wants it to stay on the feet.
Michal Materla has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Naglis Kaunietis.

Materla gets a double leg takedown into Kaunietis's guard.
Kaunietis keeping moving, preventing Materla from controlling successfully.
Materla pushing down on Kaunietis's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Materla is working for a kimura but Kaunietis is defending it quite comfortably.

Materla seems to be looking for submissions.
Kaunietis wants to get back to his feet.
Materla looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Materla looking for a submission but Kaunietis manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Materla with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Materla thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kaunietis keeping moving, preventing Materla from controlling successfully.

Materla gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Materla wants to clinch up but Kaunietis keeps it at a distance.
Kaunietis takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Materla throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kaunietis misses with a takedown attempt - Materla sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kaunietis looks gassed!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Materla is defended easily by Kaunietis.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Materla has Kaunietis up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michal Materla dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Materla dives in and scores a takedown into Kaunietis's guard.

Materla is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kaunietis is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kaunietis has escaped and now he's on top!

Kaunietis stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Materla with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Kaunietis has his takedown stuffed

and Materla holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Materla has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kaunietis is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Materla gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Materla trying to control the action but Kaunietis is working from the bottom.
Kaunietis keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Materla is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Kaunietis!
Kaunietis is breathing heavily.
Materla moves to take his opponent's back.

Materla is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Kaunietis with him. Kaunietis is trying to defend but Materla has an arm under the chin now! Kaunietis grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Michal Materla!
