The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pendragon gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Carlos jr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pendragon's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Carlos jr wants to control from the top but Pendragon keeps moving.

Pendragon is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Carlos jr advances to half guard.
Carlos jr stops Pendragon from getting back to his feet.

Carlos jr is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pendragon is just riding it out for now. Carlos jr eventually gives up the hold.
Pendragon wants to stand back up but Carlos jr manages to pass into side control.

Carlos jr is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Pendragon is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Carlos jr doesn't have the hooks in and Pendragon manages to turn into his guard.
Pendragon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Pendragon drops back, looking for a kneebar! Carlos jr looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Carlos jr looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Carlos jr!
