PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jean Luc Picard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elvis Bika (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Picard comes to the cage accompanied by The Picard Song. The crowd seem to be enjoying Bika's choice of entrance music: My Decision. Elvis Bika is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jean Luc Picard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Elvis Bika!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Picard counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Picard slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Elvis Bika hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bika fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Picard has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Picard bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Bika lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

and Picard holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bika is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Picard rather than just go for the knockout.

Bika fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Picard manages to avoid it.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Bika.
Bika lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bika is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bika seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bika bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Picard takes a head kick and keeps coming.

A bone on bone clash there as Picard blocks the leg kick.
Bika throws a hook to the side of Picard's head but Picard sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bika lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Elvis Bika seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Bika fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Picard manages to avoid it.

and Picard takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Picard gets cracked there but stands up to it.
A big left from Bika misses.

Picard drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bika looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bika looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bika!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bika is looking to take a break and control but Picard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Picard tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bika wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Picard takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Bika looking to control but instead Picard has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Picard moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Bika lands a couple of elbows.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Bika's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Elvis Bika showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Picard bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bika's guard.
Bika is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bika wants to get back to his feet but Picard is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jean Luc Picard.
I think Bika has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
