PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jiguro Kamoko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Wendigo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kamoko comes to the cage accompanied by Battle Without Honor. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jiguro Kamoko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jon Wendigo!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kamoko throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Wendigo misses with a kick to the body.
Kamoko moves away from the strike by Wendigo.
Wendigo drops his hands momentarily and Kamoko takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Kamoko throws a body punch but Wendigo moves out of range.
Wendigo defending well as Kamoko loads up on a big left hand.
Jon Wendigo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kamoko shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wendigo's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Wendigo is trying to keep Kamoko in close.

Wendigo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kamoko gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kamoko distracts Wendigo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Kamoko is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Kamoko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kamoko with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Kamoko advances to half guard.

Wendigo tries to get to full guard but Kamoko has control of the leg.
Kamoko is nestled in close to Wendigo, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kamoko lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Kamoko slips a nice elbow through Wendigo's hands, connecting with Wendigo's forehead.
Kamoko seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wendigo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kamoko wants to control but Wendigo is keeping him busy.
Wendigo is trying to improve his position.
Kamoko is putting a hurting on Wendigo here, landing some big shots from side control.

Kamoko is trying to get an arm triangle but Wendigo is defending well.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Wendigo is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kamoko connects with a decent elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

You can see the frustration on Wendigo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Wendigo wants to control but Kamoko postures up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kamoko creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Wendigo sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Wendigo is looking to improve his position.
Wendigo has hold of Kamoko's hands but Kamoko slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Kamoko wants to take a breather but Wendigo is having none of it.
Kamoko is controlling the pace.

Wendigo actively working from the bottom here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wendigo tries to kick Kamoko off but Kamoko keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Kamoko decides to stand and escape the position.
Wendigo on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Kamoko jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Kamoko uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Wendigo.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Wendigo lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Kamoko has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Kamoko and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Kamoko moves out of range of the strikes.
Wendigo throws a leg kick but Kamoko checks it.
Jon Wendigo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kamoko scores with a jab to the body.
Wendigo missing with a left hand there. Kamoko was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Wendigo takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kamoko moves out of range of the body kick.
Kamoko steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Wendigo.
Wendigo throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Wendigo looks gassed!
Donk. Kamoko catches Wendigo right on the button with a cross.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wendigo misses with a looping left.
Kamoko takes one to the side of the head.
Wendigo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kamoko was well out of range. Poor timing from Wendigo.
Kamoko connects with a good right hand that stumbles Wendigo. Wendigo circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Wendigo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kamoko cracks Wendigo with a right hand to the side of the head.
Wendigo misses with an uppercut. Kamoko saw that one coming.
Kamoko works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.


Wendigo is rocked!

Kamoko closes the distance looking for a takedown. Wendigo stuffs it but Kamoko still has hold of him. Kamoko picks Wendigo up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Kamoko slams Wendigo to the floor and that's really hurt Wendigo - he doesn't know where he is! Kamoko throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jiguro Kamoko!
In his post fight interview, Jiguro Kamoko gave a big smile as he said 'Train by day, Joe Rogan podcast by night! ALL DAY!'.
