PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between OJ Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Herbert Monsignor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Black comes to the cage accompanied by Ja Rule feat. Fat Joe & Jadakiss - New York. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, OJ Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Herbert Monsignor!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monsignor shoots for a double leg takedown but Black sprawls well. He's pushed Monsignor's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A nice inside leg kick there by Monsignor. That's going to slow Black down.
Black lands with a right hand.
Monsignor shoots in but Black avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Black catches Monsignor with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Monsignor defending well as Black loads up on a big left hand.
Monsignor wants to clinch up but Black keeps it at a distance.
Monsignor tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Black swivels and escapes.
OJ Black has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Herbert Monsignor.
Black stuffs the takedown.
Black throws a looping overhand right but Monsignor ducks down to avoid it.
Monsignor checks the leg kick.
Black misses with a few strikes there.
Black misses with a straight left.
Monsignor tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Black swivels and escapes.

Monsignor fails in his attempt to clinch.

Black throws a big shot that misses.
Monsignor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Black.
Black scores with a three punch combo!
Monsignor takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Black throws a lazy right hand but Monsignor sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Black's corner calls for a 1-2. Black obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Black misses the jab.
Horrible takedown by Monsignor or perhaps it was just good defense by Black which made him look bad.

Black scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Black circles away from the clinch attempt.
Monsignor is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Black.
Black stuffs the takedown.
Monsignor fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Monsignor looks gassed!
Danga de danga de dang - Black scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Herbert Monsignor has been cut.
Black dips to his left and cracks Monsignor with an uppercut!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Black connects with a good right hand that stumbles Monsignor. Monsignor circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Black looks to land a combination but Monsignor avoids it well.
Monsignor has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Monsignor there as he acknowledges the shot.
A swing and a miss from Black.
Monsignor tries to close the distance and clinch up but Black swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Monsignor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Black.

Monsignor blocks a jab.
Monsignor fails with an attempt to clinch.
Black lands a glancing blow to the side of Monsignor's head.
Monsignor takes one on the button.
Black misses with an uppercut.
A jab from Black does it's job there.
Black fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Monsignor on the side of the head.
Black keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Monsignor with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Black moves out of range of the body kick from Monsignor.
Monsignor takes one to the chin there.
Black stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Monsignor tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Monsignor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Black moves away.
Nice shot lands for Black.
Monsignor shoots for a takedown but Black saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Monsignor throws the kick towards the body but Black avoids it.
Black cracks Monsignor with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Nice straight punches there by Black. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Black.
Monsignor has a takedown stuffed.
Black is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
A punch lands to the side of Monsignor 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Monsignor takes one on the button.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A low kick from Black is predictable there

and Monsignor counters with a nice double leg into side control. Black won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Monsignor wants to control but Black is keeping him busy.
Black tries to bench press Monsignor off him but Monsignor keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Monsignor doesn't manage to clinch there - Black circles away.
Monsignor shoots in but no luck this time.

Monsignor shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Black as he avoids it easily.

Monsignor tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Black paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Black throws a hook but Monsignor blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Monsignor moves forwards but Black connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Black lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Monsignor shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Black as he avoids it easily.
OJ Black is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Monsignor shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
A big right from Black misses.
Monsignor slips a jab and a cross from Black.
Black throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Black lunges at Monsignor with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Monsignor's hand.

and Monsignor counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Monsignor wants to pass the guard but Black is keeping the position.

Black is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Monsignor is controlling him.
Monsignor won't allow Black to sweep him here.
Monsignor wants to pass the guard but Black is keeping the position.
Black pulls Monsignor in close to prevent any damage.
Black knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Monsignor on the ground.

Black on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Black tries to get out of the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Black falls off balance throwing a combination
and Monsignor finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Black throws a right hand that misses
and Monsignor makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Black really felt that one!

and Monsignor counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Monsignor.
Black not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Monsignor thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Black is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The fighters are battling for position here. Monsignor manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Monsignor is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Monsignor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Black gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Herbert Monsignor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Monsignor shoots in and bounces Black off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Monsignor trying to control the position from guard on top but Black is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Monsignor stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Black swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Monsignor wants to control from the top but Black keeps moving.
Black wants to improve his position but instead Monsignor has moved into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Black is pressing down on Monsignor's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Monsignor stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Black swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Monsignor passes Black's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Monsignor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Monsignor is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Monsignor is looking to take a break and control but Black is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Black is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Monsignor is trying to control the action in half guard but Black is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Monsignor scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Black is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Monsignor's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Monsignor's back!
Monsignor rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Monsignor tries to get to full guard but Black has control of the leg.

Monsignor slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Monsignor has a closed guard, preventing Black from standing up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Monsignor holds on and takes a little breather.
Black postures up.
Black has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Black stops Monsignor from standing up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Monsignor keeping moving, preventing Black from controlling successfully.
Monsignor lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Black!
Monsignor tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Black keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Herbert Monsignor has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Black tries to lock up and control but Monsignor gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Herbert Monsignor comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Monsignor has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
