PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Alonso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronald Chinner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricardo Alonso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ronald Chinner!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chinner fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Alonso to the ground. Chinner is now in Alonso's guard.

Chinner drops back, looking for a kneebar! Alonso looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alonso looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alonso!
Alonso moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Alonso tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Alonso swings around for an armbar but Chinner sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Alonso's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chinner trying to control the position from guard on top but Alonso is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alonso tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Alonso keeping moving, preventing Chinner from controlling successfully.

Chinner drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Alonso manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Chinner has Alonso in his guard.
Alonso pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chinner is keeping the position for now.
Alonso throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Chinner works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alonso content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Alonso stands and throws Chinner's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Chinner tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alonso wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Alonso has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Ronald Chinner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alonso shoots in looking for a takedown but Chinner manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Alonso's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Alonso fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Alonso fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Chinner to the ground. Alonso is now in Chinner's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Chinner controls Alonso momentarily but Alonso frees himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chinner bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alonso's guard.
Chinner passes Alonso's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Chinner is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Alonso moves into full guard.
Alonso wants to sweep but no luck.

Alonso working for a triangle but Chinner defends it easily.

Alonso has his foot on Chinner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chinner works his way back into a safe position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Chinner is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Alonso is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Alonso has escaped and now he's on top!

Alonso gets to his feet - Chinner follows without any prompting.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chinner tries to clinch

so Alonso counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Alonso throws a strike but Chinner rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chinner is fighting to break Alonso's control of his arms but Alonso is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Alonso tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricardo Alonso dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Chinner fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alonso sprawls well initially but Chinner persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Chinner looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Chinner seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Alonso is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ronald Chinner!
