PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ned Alonso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jarkko Vuorinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vuorinen has chosen Teräsbetoni - Taivas lyö Tulta as his entrance music. Jarkko Vuorinen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ned Alonso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jarkko Vuorinen!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alonso fails to land the takedown.
Vuorinen comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Alonso tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Alonso has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Vuorinen's face.

Vuorinen is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

You get the feeling that Vuorinen really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Alonso throws a strike there. Vuorinen manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.

Alonso is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Vuorinen is just riding it out for now. Alonso eventually gives up the hold.
Alonso has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Vuorinen connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Alonso momentarily.

Vuorinen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alonso. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Alonso wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Vuorinen, who protects the arm well.

Alonso is taking a breather. Vuorinen says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

We're going to have a standup here because Ned Alonso wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Vuorinen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Alonso sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alonso, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
