PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tamanui Te Patu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bolo Yeung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yeung has chosen Everything in it's right place as his entrance music. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tamanui Te Patu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bolo Yeung!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yeung changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Te Patu tries to avoid it but Yeung manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Te Patu to the ground. Te Patu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Te Patu throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Yeung counters with a nice leg kick.

Te Patu gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Yeung gets a trip takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Te Patu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Yeung seems to be looking for submissions.
Yeung prevents Te Patu from improving his position.
Te Patu is working hard here to advance position.
Yeung moves nicely into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Te Patu's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Yeung is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Te Patu has escaped the position, nice work there.
Te Patu tries to improve position but can't.

Yeung tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Yeung has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Te Patu is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Te Patu is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Yeung off and has taken his back!
Te Patu missing with punches from the back.
Yeung turns into Te Patu and is now in his guard.

Yeung drops back looking for a leg! Te Patu is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Te Patu manages to kick Yeung off! Yeung jumps back into Te Patu's guard.
Te Patu lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Yeung!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Te Patu goes for an armbar but Yeung turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Yeung.

Te Patu is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Yeung is aware though and is defending well.
Yeung tries to free his leg and advance position but Te Patu is retaining full guard.
Yeung trying to control but Te Patu is working from the bottom.
Yeung slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Yeung looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Yeung is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Te Patu is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Te Patu is looking to reverse the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Yeung is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Te Patu has escaped the position, nice work there.
Te Patu regains half guard.

Yeung is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Te Patu trying to control but Yeung postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Te Patu gets back to full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Te Patu wants to sweep here but Yeung controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bolo Yeung will probably get the nod.
That's time! Te Patu's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Yeung tries for a takedown but Te Patu circles away easily
and Te Patu counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A swing and a miss from Te Patu.
Yeung shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Yeung takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.


It looks like Bolo Yeung has been cut.
Te Patu misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yeung misses with a body shot.

Te Patu clinches up with Yeung and pushes him back against the cage.
Yeung drops down looking for an ankle pick but Te Patu pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tamanui Te Patu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bolo Yeung.
Te Patu keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Te Patu clinches with his opponent.
Yeung tries for a takedown. No joy.
Yeung is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Te Patu is defending well.
Yeung goes for a takedown attempt but Te Patu pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Horrible takedown by Yeung or perhaps it was just good defense by Te Patu which made him look bad.
Yeung is breathing heavily.
Yeung keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Te Patu.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yeung throws out a loose jab but Te Patu uses good head movement to avoid it.
Te Patu pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Yeung shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Yeung with a lazy takedown attempt
and Te Patu cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Yeung moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yeung blocks a jab.
Yeung throws a hook but Te Patu avoids it easily.
Te Patu throws a hook but Yeung blocks it.
Yeung misses with a double jab.
Yeung misses the jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tamanui Te Patu dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Bolo Yeung's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Yeung has his takedown stuffed
and Te Patu counters with a left and a right that stings Yeung.
Te Patu misses with a lunging right hand
and Yeung connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Yeung.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Yeung is fighting off a takedown attempt but Te Patu is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Yeung to the mat. Yeung regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Te Patu missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Te Patu working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Yeung's head.
Yeung is controlling Te Patu's posture.
Te Patu stopping the sweep attempt from Yeung.
Yeung wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Yeung is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Te Patu has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Te Patu throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Yeung works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Yeung is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Te Patu postures up in Yeung's guard and throws a big left but Yeung blocks it.
Yeung is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bolo Yeung has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Te Patu is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Yeung.
Te Patu misses with a two punch combination.
Yeung throws a predictable looking body shot
and Te Patu counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yeung ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Yeung throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Te Patu was covering up waiting for the punch and Yeung finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Yeung stands and throws Te Patu's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Te Patu is looking to reverse the position.

Yeung is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Te Patu knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Te Patu tries to buck Yeung off but Yeung is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yeung grinds an elbow into Te Patu's temple.
Te Patu gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Te Patu moves into full guard.
Te Patu is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Yeung trying to control the position from guard on top but Te Patu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Te Patu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Yeung can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yeung wants to pass the guard but Te Patu is keeping the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tamanui Te Patu.
I think Te Patu has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
