Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nikolai Volkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Bernie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Nikolai Volkov has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Nikolai Volkov seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Volkov throws out a loose jab but Bernie uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bernie shoots in and drives through. Volkov sprawls well.
Volkov checks a leg kick.
Volkov uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bernie.
A telegraphed right hand from Volkov misses the target.
Bernie misses with a wild body shot.
Bernie ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Volkov throws a lazy right hand but Bernie sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bernie.
Nikolai Volkov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bernie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Bernie uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Volkov.
Bernie tries to close the distance and clinch but Volkov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bernie swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Volkov looks to score with a jab to the body but Bernie is just out of range.

Bernie takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Bernie pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Volkov looks to land a left hand but Bernie moved out of range nicely.
Volkov has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Bernie is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Volkov.

Bernie gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Volkov lands a body shot.
Volkov loads up on a big right hand but Bernie slips the punch.
Bernie takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Bernie blocks a jab.
Volkov tries to work over Bernie's front leg with a kick but Bernie checks it.

Bernie lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bernie landing strikes from the mount.

Volkov is looking to improve his position but Bernie isn't that keen on the idea.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bernie postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Volkov looks a forlorn figure.

Volkov has hold of Bernie's hands but Bernie slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Bernie drops an elbow to the side of Volkov's head.
Volkov tries to get to full guard but Bernie has control of the leg.

Bernie wants to take a breather but Volkov is having none of it.

Bernie perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Bernie wants to work for an arm triangle but Volkov is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bernie wants to control but Volkov is keeping him busy.
Bernie takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Volkov slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Volkov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bernie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bryan Bernie has got the better of the ground game so far.

Volkov has his foot on Bernie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bernie works his way back into a safe position though.

Volkov had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bernie defends it easily.

Bryan Bernie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The fighters circle momentarily. Volkov darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Volkov throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Volkov is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Bernie is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Volkov.

Bernie controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Bernie is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Volkov has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Bernie is looking to defend but Volkov has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Bernie! Volkov pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Bernie taps out and this one is all over!

Nikolai Volkov decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
