PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Keisuke Okazaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Sandoval (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Keisuke Okazaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Joseph Sandoval!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sandoval instigates a clinch.
Sandoval creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Okazaki's defenses.
Okazaki tries to stall but Sandoval uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Sandoval keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Okazaki's efforts to push away.
Sandoval is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Okazaki is defending well for now.
Sandoval throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Okazaki blocks an elbow strike from Sandoval.
Sandoval is struggling to control the position.
Sandoval pushes off an throws an elbow but Okazaki leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Okazaki wants to stall.
Okazaki tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Sandoval's elbow.
Sandoval tries for a takedown. No joy.
Okazaki on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Sandoval wants a takedown.
Sandoval gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Okazaki avoiding damage as Sandoval throws knees to the body.

Sandoval breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Okazaki throws a head kick that misses.

Sandoval rushes Okazaki and presses him up against the cage.

Sandoval pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Okazaki takes a swing at Sandoval's ribcage but misses.
Sandoval moves out of range as Okazaki throws a body kick.
Some bone on bone action there as Sandoval checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Okazaki throws a wild body kick that Sandoval sees coming a mile off.
Sandoval checks a low kick from Okazaki.
Sandoval takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
A low kick from Okazaki is predictable there
and Sandoval counters with a slapping leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sandoval fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Okazaki has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Okazaki pivots, looking for a leg kick but Sandoval is out of range and Okazaki settles back down.
Okazaki checks a leg kick.
Okazaki lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Okazaki lands a head kick. Sandoval smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Sandoval moves into the clinch.
Okazaki dodges an elbow strike from Sandoval.
Sandoval tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Sandoval is pushing Okazaki up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sandoval's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Sandoval rushes Okazaki and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sandoval is struggling to control the position.
Okazaki tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Sandoval's elbow.
Sandoval lands a damaging elbow.
Sandoval slowing the pace effectively.
Sandoval can't get the takedown.
Keisuke Okazaki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joseph Sandoval.
Okazaki blocks an elbow strike from Sandoval.
Okazaki takes an elbow to the temple.
Sandoval missing with knees to the body.
Okazaki has Sandoval pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sandoval manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Sandoval just misses with a elbow thrown towards Okazaki's brow.

Sandoval wants the takedown. Okazaki is fighting it off but Sandoval persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Okazaki's guard against the cage.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Sandoval trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sandoval wants to get up but he can't break Okazaki's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Sandoval looks gassed!
Okazaki is pulling down on Sandoval's head. It's preventing any offense from Sandoval, at least for the moment.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Okazaki looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Sandoval is defending well. Okazaki quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Sandoval has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Okazaki celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Keisuke Okazaki!
Keisuke Okazaki seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
