PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Franklyn Vass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randall Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vass kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Highway to Hell (AC/DC). Franklyn Vass has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Franklyn Vass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Randall Jones!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Vass, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Vass against the ropes but Vass circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jones looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Jones rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Vass moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jones should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Vass drives through and clinches with Jones against the ropes.

Vass has hold of one of Jones's legs. Jones is fighting the takedown attempt but Vass gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Jones is trying to keep Vass in close.
Vass wants to stand but Jones has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Vass pushing down on Jones's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Vass seems to be looking for submissions.
Vass trying to control the pace.
Jones is looking to improve his position.

Jones is defending against the submission attempts here by Vass.
Vass looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Vass keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vass has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Jones is looking for a sweep. Vass is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Vass working the head and body with strikes.
Vass trying to control the action but Jones is working from the bottom.
Vass content to control rather than advance.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Franklyn Vass.
Vass wants to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vass shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Vass's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Vass tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Jones counters with a slapping leg kick.
Vass tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Vass tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Jones wants to clinch.

Jones scores with a takedown into Vass's guard.

Vass seems keen to control Jones's posture.

Jones drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vass looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vass looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vass!
Jones takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Vass has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Vass shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Franklyn Vass dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jones throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Vass sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Vass throws a front kick aimed at Jones's knee but Jones avoids it well.
Jones wants to clinch.
Vass tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Good work by Jones as he checks the leg kick.

Jones moves into the clinch.
Vass is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the ropes enables Jones to keep the fight standing.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Vass looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Vass lands a right hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vass is looking to take this one to the mat.
Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Vass won't allow it.
Vass blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Vass throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Vass wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Vass avoids a wild elbow strike from Jones.

Jones manages to pull guard.
Vass showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Jones working a defensive guard but Vass manages to pass into side control anyway.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vass moves into full mount!
Vass takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Vass looking for a guillotine from mount but Jones is having none of it.
Jones is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Jones is in a horrible position here. Vass smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vass is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jones can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Vass swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Franklyn Vass!
