PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rafael Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Oliveira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Pierce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jason Oliveira!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pierce throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Oliveira's waist but Oliveira gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pierce off to one side.
Pierce tries for a takedown but Oliveira circles away easily
and Oliveira counters with a nice body shot.
Oliveira swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Pierce closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Oliveira to the mat! Oliveira manages to get full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pierce in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Pierce advances to half guard.
Pierce throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Pierce wants to work for an arm triangle but Oliveira is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Pierce is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Pierce is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Oliveira doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Pierce.

Pierce seems to be looking for submissions.
Oliveira really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pierce. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pierce is working for a kimura but Oliveira is defending it quite comfortably.
Pierce trying to control from half guard but Oliveira is working away.

Pierce is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pierce is looking to take a break and control but Oliveira is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Pierce passes the guard and advances to mount!
Pierce with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Oliveira is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Pierce locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Oliveira is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rafael Pierce!
