PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Von Rondow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Drew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Von Rondow is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Charlie Drew will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Von Rondow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charlie Drew!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Von Rondow bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Von Rondow is breathing heavily.

Von Rondow gets tackled into the cage by Drew. Drew maintains the clinch.

Drew jumps into guard, dragging Von Rondow to the mat.
Drew is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drew works his way into full mount!

Drew is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Von Rondow can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Von Rondow on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Von Rondow tries to get out of the position.

Drew is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Von Rondow is surviving well by controlling Drew's body position as best he can.

It looks like Drew might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Charlie Drew hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Drew drives through and clinches with Von Rondow against the cage.

Drew scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Drew has Von Rondow pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Von Rondow manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Drew unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Drew has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Von Rondow avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Drew tries to pull guard but Von Rondow holds him up against the cage and eventually Drew drops back down to his feet.
Drew is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Charlie Drew showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Drew dives in and grabs Von Rondow's left leg, looking for a takedown. Von Rondow pushes down on Drew's head and hops out.

Drew fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Von Rondow, pushing him back against the cage.

Drew breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Von Rondow tries to clinch but Drew is having none of it.

Nice takedown defense from Von Rondow. No joy for Drew on that attempt.
Von Rondow leaves Drew with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Drew shoots for a takedown but Von Rondow saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Drew looks to land a combination but Von Rondow avoids it well.
Von Rondow uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Drew fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Von Rondow smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Drew closes the distance and clinches.

Drew breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Charlie Drew is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Drew looks for a takedown but Von Rondow sprawls well.
Drew shoots in looking for a takedown but Von Rondow manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Drew's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Drew will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Von Rondow throws a leg kick
and Drew counters with a low kick, right behind Von Rondow 's knee.
Von Rondow throws out a loose jab but Drew uses good head movement to avoid it.
Von Rondow throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Drew sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Pedro Von Rondow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Drew lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Von Rondow misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Drew tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Von Rondow swivels and escapes.
Drew throws a leg kick but Von Rondow checks it.
Von Rondow loads up on a big right hand but Drew slips the punch.
Drew tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Drew lands a high kick!
Charlie Drew is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Von Rondow looks to throw the jab but Drew is out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Charlie Drew comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Drew has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
