The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Powers shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Patrick manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Powers must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Powers trying to control but Patrick is working from the bottom.

Patrick has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Powers can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Patrick throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Powers throwing strikes from guard but Patrick blocks nicely.

Powers throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Patrick works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Patrick is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Powers scores with a couple of nice shots.
Patrick might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Powers is working for a submission of some sort.

Powers is stalling here. Patrick is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Powers seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Patrick has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Powers is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Patrick has just dragged him back down to the mat.
