PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harvey No (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harvey No!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

No clinches up with Smith and pushes him back against the cage.
Smith lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Smith struggles to land a body shot inside as No controls his hands.
No is trying to stall.

Smith jumps guard and drags No to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Smith scrambles and gets back to his feet.
No fails to land the takedown.
Nice sprawl there from Smith as No shoots in.

No shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smith's guard.
Smith not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smith is on top in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Smith decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on No, up you get!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith throws a right hand that misses

and No counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smith won't be happy with that.
No wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.

No tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
No throws an elbow but Smith slips to the side and avoids it well.
No working away.

No working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Smith controls the position for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
No wants to stand but Smith has his arm trapped.
Smith is pushing No's head away, looking to escape. No manages to hold on to the position though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Smith sneaks back into half guard.
Smith gets full guard.
No wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

No has gone for a leg lock! Smith slips out almost immediately though and dives into No's guard.
No looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Smith landing some decent shots from guard.

No looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
No working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Smith.
No really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

No is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.
No wants to sweep here but Smith controlling him for the moment.

Smith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Smith is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Smith gets to his feet - No follows without any prompting.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A combination from No does no damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jake Smith will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Horrible takedown by No or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith which made him look bad.
Smith shoots for a takedown but No saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
No gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Smith counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Smith.
Smith wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but No has him pressed against the cage.
Smith tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. No smiles and moves away.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith defends well against a solid takedown attempt from No.

No closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
No thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
No throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
No is breathing heavily.
Smith gets full guard.
Smith looking to control.
No missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
No trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Smith working a defensive guard here.
Smith throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Jake Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smith has a closed guard, preventing No from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

No decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Smith, up you get!
Jake Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
No stuffs the takedown attempt from Smith. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.

No tries to sprawl but Smith drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Smith is trying to control. No wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
No trying to control but Smith postures up.
No is trying to get back to full guard.

Smith escapes and gets back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
No doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Smith counters with a right hand to the body.
Smith is looking to clinch.
Smith will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
No tries to clinch there but Smith circles away.
No looks for a takedown but Smith sprawls well.

Smith clinches.

Smith is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. No can't fight it off and eventually Smith manages to take the fight to the floor. No looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
No keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.
No is pulling down on Smith's head. It's preventing any offense from Smith, at least for the moment.
Smith scoring with some ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

No has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Smith dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Smith feints and as No raises his hands in defense, Smith changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
No looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Smith puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Smith seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. No is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Jake Smith!
