PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Scott Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Murdock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Already Over. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Scott Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Murdock!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Murdock manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Murdock.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick

and Murdock counters with a takedown into side control.

Murdock wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.
Murdock throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Murdock misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Smith is not content to let Murdock control the position.

Murdock wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.
Murdock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Murdock seems to be working for a kimura but Smith defends the submission attempt.
Murdock frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Murdock looking to finish with strikes here!
Murdock thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Smith is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Murdock throwing strikes here but Smith is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Smith is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Smith is looking to get to half guard.

Murdock looking to secure an arm triangle but Smith defends it well.
Murdock raining down hammerfists from mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith wants to hold on but Murdock pushes him away.

Murdock wants to finish this one by submission but Smith is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Murdock.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
BOOM! Murdock connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Smith avoids a series of strikes thrown by Murdock.

Murdock swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Smith is now in Murdock's guard. A big mistake from Murdock there, giving up the dominant position!

Murdock is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Murdock looking to control.
Murdock is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Smith is trying to stand.
Murdock throws a strike but Smith avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith looking for a sweep. Not yet Smith, not yet.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Murdock from controlling successfully.
Smith is adopting a defensive guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Murdock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Murdock dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Murdock slips a jab and a cross from Smith.
Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Smith drives through and clinches with Murdock against the ropes.
Smith looking to stall.
Murdock tries to pull guard but Smith forces him back to his feet, against the ropes.
Murdock lands a hook that snaps the head of Smith backwards.
Murdock lands an elbow inside.


It looks like Scott Smith has been cut.
Murdock wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Murdock trying to stall but Smith improves his position.
Smith blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Smith holding his opponent close, against the ropes.

Smith breaks the clinch.
Scott Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Murdock shoots in and drives through. Smith sprawls well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith throws a jab but it's blocked by Murdock.
Murdock ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away.
A head kick misses from Smith.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Murdock moves out of range easily.

Smith has closed the distance and engaged Murdock in a clinch.
Smith working Murdock over with knees to the body.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Smith prevents a takedown attempt there.
Scott Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Murdock.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Smith.
Murdock makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Smith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smith moves in looking to clinch but Murdock pushes him off.
Murdock displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Smith throws out the jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Murdock takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Murdock looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith trying to control the position.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Murdock is controlling him.

Murdock has gone for a leg lock! Smith slips out almost immediately though and dives into Murdock's guard.
Smith trying to control but Murdock is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Murdock working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Smith wants to get up but he can't break Murdock's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Murdock is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.
Murdock throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Murdock is trying to keep Smith in close.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Murdock has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Murdock's legs - danger averted.
Smith controlling from the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Murdock trying to strike off his back.
Murdock is trying to control the position but Smith postures up.
Smith wants to control from the top but Murdock keeps moving.

Murdock has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Murdock is looking to sinch up a triangle. Smith throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Murdock's body to avoid the submission. Murdock has instead reached around Smith's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Murdock arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Joe Murdock!
