PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Randleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocky Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Randleman kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Step up - Drowning pool. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Randleman throws a good cross that connects.
Randleman misses with a lunging right hand

and Ortiz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Randleman won't be happy with that.
Randleman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ortiz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Ortiz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Randleman tries to roll over but Ortiz keeps him under control.

Ortiz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Randleman swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ortiz slips a jab and a cross from Randleman.
Randleman thows a body shot but no joy.
Randleman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ortiz tries to bum rush Randleman with a series of wild strikes but Randleman uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ortiz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Ortiz using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Randleman has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Randleman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ortiz walks away with a smile on his face. Randleman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Ortiz has Randleman pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ortiz pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Randleman tumbling to the mat - Ortiz dives into Randleman's guard.

Ortiz not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Randleman looking for a guillotine here but Ortiz defends easily.

Ortiz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Randleman is just riding it out for now. Ortiz eventually gives up the hold.

It looks like Ortiz might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

A head kick from Ortiz lands but Randleman takes it in his stride.


It looks like Dan Randleman has been cut.
Ortiz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Randleman.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ortiz manages to pull guard.
Randleman wants to stand but Ortiz is controlling his posture from full guard.

Randleman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ortiz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Randleman has Ortiz in his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ortiz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Randleman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Randleman takes a swing at Ortiz's ribcage but misses.
Randleman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ortiz misses with a double jab.
Randleman connects with the punch.

Ortiz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Randleman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ortiz has managed to get both his arms back between Randleman's legs - danger averted.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Rocky Ortiz hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Ortiz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Randleman was covering up waiting for the punch and Ortiz finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ortiz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Randleman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Randleman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ortiz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Randleman's guard.

Randleman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ortiz is working away from the top position though.
