The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Buesching forces Thompson back against the cage and clinches.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Buesching just misses with a elbow thrown towards Thompson's brow.
Thompson tries to pull guard but Buesching holds him up against the cage and eventually Thompson drops back down to his feet.
Thompson has Buesching pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Buesching manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Thompson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Buesching misses with a head kick.
Buesching tries a head kick but it misses.
Buesching shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Thompson pinned against the cage. Thompson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Thompson forces Buesching back against the cage and clinches.
Thompson pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Thompson breaks from the clinch.
Buesching throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Thompson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Buesching misses with a hook. Thompson ducked under it nicely.

Thompson has closed the distance and engaged Buesching in a clinch.

Thompson is looking to slow Buesching down with leg kicks.

Thompson lands with a kick to the temple. Buesching shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Thompson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Thompson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Robin Buesching has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rocky Thompson.
Buesching looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Robin Buesching seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Thompson tries to keep at a distance but Buesching has taken the fight into the clinch.
Buesching tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Thompson smiles and moves away.

Thompson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Buesching.

Buesching throws a sloppy head kick and Thompson moves out of range easily.

Thompson is looking to control Buesching's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Thompson avoid being mounted?

Thompson tries to roll over but Buesching keeps him under control.

Thompson wants to improve his position but Buesching is controlling well.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thompson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Thompson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Buesching puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
