PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slobodan Gajic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chris Pain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Slobodan Gajic!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pain takes a shot right to the bread basket.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Pain escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pain has a takedown stuffed.
Pain will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gajic moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like Chris Pain has been cut.
Pain tries to clinch there but Gajic circles away.
Pain fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pain gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Gajic.

Pain feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Pain seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gajic keeping full guard, as Pain tries to pass.
Pain throws and elbow that misses. Gajic uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pain's guard. Nice move by Gajic!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gajic wanted to stand there but Pain had control of the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gajic accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gajic trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Gajic tries for a takedown but Pain circles away easily

and Pain counters with a shoot takedown. Gajic fights it but they end up in guard.
Pain forces his way into half guard.
Pain wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gajic keeps working.
Gajic looks gassed!
Gajic is trying to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gajic is trying to maintain the position but Pain is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pain decides to stand and escape the position.
Gajic dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Pain. That did some damage!

Pain clinches up with Gajic and pushes him back against the cage.
Gajic tries for a takedown but Pain manages to get underhooks.
Pain using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Pain pressing his opponent against the cage.
Gajic wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pain has him pressed against the cage.
Pain has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gajic is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Gajic is pressed up against the cage. Pain has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gajic down to the mat. Gajic avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Pain. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gajic tries a head kick but it misses.
Pain blocks a head kick by Gajic.

Pain gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Gajic manages to break the clinch.
Gajic throws a front kick that sends Pain stumbling back into the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gajic throws a nice head kick!
Gajic circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Pain drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Gajic follows Pain to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Slobodan Gajic!
