Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Susanin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Berndt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ivan Susanin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Berndt!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Berndt tries to clinch up but Susanin circles away and keeps his distance.
Berndt tries to close the distance and clinch up but Susanin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Berndt gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Susanin's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Berndt has picked Susanin up - he's going for a ride! Berndt dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Susanin is trying to get back to full guard.
Berndt is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are battling for position here. Susanin manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Susanin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Berndt looking to sit in guard and control but Susanin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Susanin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Susanin lands a couple of elbows.

Susanin wants to control from the top but Berndt keeps moving.

Susanin has gone for a leg lock! Berndt slips out almost immediately though and dives into Susanin's guard.

Berndt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Susanin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Berndt is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Susanin is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Susanin has escaped and now he's on top!

Susanin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Berndt looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Berndt looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Berndt!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Susanin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Berndt doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Susanin.
Susanin is looking to take a break and control but Berndt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Susanin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Berndt's head.
Susanin uses his free foot to push down on Berndt's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Berndt.

Berndt is looking to improve his position but Susanin isn't that keen on the idea.
Berndt gets back to half guard.
Berndt is trying to control but can't.
Susanin wants to pass the guard but Berndt is defending well.
Susanin trying to control the action but Berndt is working from the bottom.

Susanin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Berndt doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Susanin.
Berndt tries to roll over but Susanin keeps him under control.
Susanin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Berndt knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Susanin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but James Berndt will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Berndt tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Berndt throws a sloppy head kick and Susanin moves out of range easily.
Berndt tries to clinch but Susanin moves out of range.

Susanin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Berndt to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Berndt tries to free his leg and advance position but Susanin is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Berndt scoring with some ground and pound.

Berndt decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Susanin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Berndt!
Susanin misses with a head shot.
Berndt holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Susanin tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Berndt is squirming around, avoiding Susanin's attempts to control the action.
Berndt has given up his back.

Susanin is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Berndt has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Susanin is looking for a choke. Berndt gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Berndt manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
Berndt is working Susanin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Berndt accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ivan Susanin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Berndt is working Susanin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Susanin trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Berndt working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Susanin's head.

Berndt stands up and waves to Susanin to follow him.
Susanin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Berndt sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Berndt rushes Susanin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

It looks like Ivan Susanin has been cut.
Susanin is trying to stall.
Berndt connects with a nasty looking knee right to Susanin's face.
Susanin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Berndt gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Berndt breaks the clinch.

Berndt manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Susanin on his heels. He'll look to pass Susanin's guard now, I'm sure.

Susanin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Berndt passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

James Berndt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Berndt drives through and clinches with Susanin against the cage.

Berndt pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

James Berndt is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Susanin manages to get to full guard.
Berndt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Berndt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Berndt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
