PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Heero Yuy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Ingram (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yuy comes to the cage accompanied by Coma Black - Marilyn Manson. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Heero Yuy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tony Ingram!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yuy tries to bum rush Ingram with a series of wild strikes but Ingram uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Yuy fails to land with a series of punches.
Yuy throws a combination that misses

and Ingram counters with a single leg into guard. Yuy didn't expect that.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ingram not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Ingram won't allow Yuy to sweep him here.
Ingram is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tony Ingram has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

and Yuy counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Yuy.

Ingram pulls Yuy in close to prevent any damage.
Yuy controls from within his opponent's guard.
Yuy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ingram is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Yuy throwing strikes but missing.
Yuy wants to control from the top but Ingram keeps moving.
Yuy preventing the sweep.
Ingram has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Ingram's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Yuy has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Heero Yuy has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Yuy shoots in for a takedown but Ingram shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Ingram avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ingram's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Yuy connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Ingram scrambles back to his feet.
Ingram dives in and grabs Yuy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Yuy pushes down on Ingram's head and hops out.
Yuy throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nice straight punches there by Yuy. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Yuy.

Ingram changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Yuy looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ingram controls the position from side control.
Yuy is trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Yuy is trying to get back to his feet.
Yuy is breathing heavily.
Yuy is letting Ingram control him for a moment.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tony Ingram wasn't active enough on the ground.
Yuy misses with a few strikes there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yuy shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Ingram eats them both and turns towards Yuy to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Ingram dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Yuy fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ingram showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Yuy.
Heero Yuy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yuy throws a series of punches but Ingram moves out of range.
Yuy throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Ingram counters with a single leg into guard. Yuy didn't expect that.
Ingram's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ingram pushes down on Yuy's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Still in half guard, Ingram seems content to control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tony Ingram wasn't active enough on the ground.
Yuy misses with a double jab.
Yuy misses with the combination.
Yuy stuffs the takedown.
Nice sprawl there from Ingram as Yuy shoots in.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ingram.
Yuy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ingram tries to avoid it but Yuy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ingram to the ground. Ingram escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Heero Yuy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Ingram.
Yuy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ingram moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ingram walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Ingram shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Yuy as he jumps to the side.
Ingram shoots in for a takedown but Yuy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Ingram shoots in for a double leg but Yuy sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ingram avoids the body shot from Yuy.
Ingram tries for a takedown but Yuy sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Yuy throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Yuy fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ingram looks for a takedown but Yuy sprawls well.

Ingram manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Yuy on his heels. He'll look to pass Yuy's guard now, I'm sure.
Yuy might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ingram seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tony Ingram wasn't active enough on the ground.
Yuy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ingram.
Yuy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ingram sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yuy somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Ingram showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Horrible takedown by Ingram or perhaps it was just good defense by Yuy which made him look bad.
Yuy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ingram's waist but Ingram gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Yuy off to one side.
Heero Yuy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ingram shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Yuy's guard.

Let's hope that Ingram has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tony Ingram hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Yuy throws a right hand that Ingram ducks under and follows up with a left that Ingram also avoids with ease.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Some wild striking there from Yuy.

and Ingram counters with a nice double leg into side control. Yuy won't be happy with that.
A lull in the action here.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Ingram slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Heero Yuy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Tony Ingram is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Heero Yuy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Ingram.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Tony Ingram comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ingram winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
