PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stu Gotts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deacon Griggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gotts comes to the cage accompanied by Godfather Theme. Griggs has chosen Church by T-Pain as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stu Gotts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deacon Griggs!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Gregory Folan and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Griggs.
Griggs pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Griggs fails with a takedown attempt.

Griggs shoots in and gets a takedown into Gotts's guard.
Gotts keeping moving, preventing Griggs from controlling successfully.
Griggs throws an elbow that misses. Gotts uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Griggs's guard. Nice move by Gotts!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Griggs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gotts doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gotts manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Griggs is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Griggs not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Ground and pound from Griggs.
Gotts is looking for a sweep. Griggs is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Griggs wants to control but Gotts is keeping him busy.
Griggs missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Gotts on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Griggs is taking a breather. Gotts says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Griggs has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Griggs landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Griggs is looking to take a break and control but Gotts is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Griggs looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gotts with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gotts avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Griggs.
Griggs works his foot free and advances to mount.
Gotts takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Griggs tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Gotts defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Griggs.
Griggs trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Griggs lands with some strikes.
Griggs lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Griggs connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Griggs landing strikes, looking to finish!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Griggs landing strikes from the mount and Gotts is in trouble!


Gotts is rocked!
Gotts knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Griggs on the ground.
Griggs postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Gotts badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Griggs around the waist but Griggs pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Griggs is the winner by TKO! Griggs jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Deacon Griggs!
Post fight, Deacon Griggs stared into the camera and said 'I am glad that I was able to pick up the win. I think I was a little overwhelmed in my last fight, but this Deacon Griggs is the one that MLC fans should expect every time.'.
