PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Snap Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Gracia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis's entrance music is Bottoms Up by Trey Songz f. Nicki Minaj. A fine choice. Gracia is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Last Fight. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Snap Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Gracia!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracia closes the distance looking to clinch

and Davis counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gracia's guard now.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Davis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Davis throws a big right hand that misses.
Davis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Davis drops back looking for a leg! Gracia is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gracia manages to kick Davis off! Davis jumps back into Gracia's guard.

Davis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gracia, up you get!
Nice takedown defense from Gracia. No joy for Davis on that attempt.
Gracia moves in looking to clinch but Davis pushes him off.

Jose Gracia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracia misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Davis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gracia swivels and escapes.
Gracia fails with an attempt to clinch.
Davis misses with a few strikes there.
Gracia tries to close the distance and clinch but Davis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Snap Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Davis misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Davis takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Davis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Davis wants to pass the guard but Gracia is keeping the position.

Gracia really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Davis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Davis advances to half guard.
Davis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gracia is defending against the submission attempts here by Davis.
Davis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Davis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Davis seems to be working for a kimura but Gracia defends the submission attempt.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gracia can do anything to dispel that myth.

Davis wants to work for an arm triangle but Gracia is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Davis is working for a submission of some sort.

Davis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gracia keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Snap Davis dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Davis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Davis throws a big elbow that misses.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Davis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Davis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Davis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Davis wants to control from the top but Gracia keeps moving.

Davis advances position into side control!

Davis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gracia, who protects the arm well.

Davis has hold of Gracia's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Gracia tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Davis cranks the arm and Gracia screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Gracia, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Snap Davis!
