Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Coobie Barksdale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Borba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Coobie Barksdale!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Borba!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Borba looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Borba tries to score a power double leg takedown but Barksdale sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Borba somewhat.
Barksdale swats away the attempt to clinch by Borba.
Barksdale pushes Borba away with a front kick.
Borba throws a right and a left that both miss.

Barksdale moves into the clinch.
Barksdale has Borba pushed against the cage.

Barksdale decides to pull guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Borba thows a big elbow that misses.
Borba would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barksdale throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Borba passes Barksdale's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Barksdale wants to improve his position but Borba is controlling well.
Barksdale is trying to stand back up but Borba is controlling him

Borba wanted to stand there but Barksdale had control of the position.

Barksdale pushes Borba off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Barksdale has taken the fight to the clinch.

Borba lands a nice knee to the body.
Borba misses with an elbow strike.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Borba wants to stand but Barksdale has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barksdale manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Barksdale has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Borba is wriggling around trying to escape.

Borba tries to clinch but Barksdale is having none of it.
Barksdale fails with the takedown.
Borba moves in looking to clinch but Barksdale pushes him off.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Barksdale counters with a big head kick but Borba shrugs it off.
Borba stuffs the takedown.
Borba shoots in for a double leg but Barksdale sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Borba throws out a leg kick but Barksdale moves out of range and Borba only half commits.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Barksdale stalks Borba and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Borba's face. Borba staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Anderson Borba has been cut.
Nice sprawl there from Borba as Barksdale shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Coobie Barksdale. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Barksdale feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Borba slaps away a takedown attempt from Barksdale, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Borba is looking to clinch.
Barksdale stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Barksdale wants it to stay on the feet.
Borba throws a series of punches but Barksdale moves out of range.
Barksdale connects with a good right hand that stumbles Borba. Borba circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

and Barksdale counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Barksdale controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Barksdale decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Borba will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Borba scores with a head kick. Barksdale tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Barksdale throws a head kick that Borba semi-blocks.
Barksdale shoots in but Borba avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Coobie Barksdale overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Barksdale is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Borba defends well.
Barksdale looking to hit a scissor sweep but Borba is one step ahead there.

Barksdale working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Borba doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Borba manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Borba drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Barksdale manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Borba has Barksdale in his guard.

Barksdale stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Borba swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Borba tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Barksdale shoots in for a takedown but Borba shows good takedown defense.
Barksdale takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Borba shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Barksdale as he jumps to the side.

Borba tries a body shot but Barksdale blocks it.

Borba successfully pulls guard.
Barksdale stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Borba swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Barksdale throws and elbow that misses. Borba uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Barksdale's guard. Nice move by Borba!
Borba takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Borba wants to pass the guard but Barksdale is keeping the position.

Barksdale is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Borba is aware though and is defending well.

Borba distracts Barksdale with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Barksdale manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Borba manages to get himself to full guard.
Borba lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Barksdale!

Barksdale regains half guard.
Barksdale is staying active underneath Borba, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Borba thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Barksdale's head.
Borba wants to free his trapped foot but Barksdale is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Borba thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Borba is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Barksdale bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Borba not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Barksdale slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Anderson Borba has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Coobie Barksdale is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Borba isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Barksdale stacks Borba on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Barksdale!

I would just about give that final round to Anderson Borba.
Well Barksdale has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
