PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Martin Boardman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and King Leonidas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boardman kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Can't Touch This. Leonidas is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Ultimate Warrior .. Theme SOng. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Martin Boardman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, King Leonidas!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boardman thuds a left hand into Leonidas's body.
Boardman pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Leonidas back to the cage. Boardman follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Leonidas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Boardman as he jumps to the side.
Leonidas shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Boardman defends it nicely.
Leonidas takes one to the chin there.
Leonidas takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Leonidas shoots in looking for a takedown. Boardman tries to sprawl out of it but Leonidas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Boardman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Martin Boardman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of King Leonidas.

Leonidas is looking to clinch but Boardman is avoiding it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boardman trying to control the position from guard on top but Leonidas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boardman throws a strike but Leonidas rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Boardman on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Boardman tries to get out of the position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Boardman looking to hit a scissor sweep but Leonidas is one step ahead there.

Boardman is looking to stand up but Leonidas isn't so interested in that idea.

Leonidas drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Leonidas jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Boardman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Leonidas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Leonidas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Boardman defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Leonidas.
Boardman dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Boardman ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Leonidas is defended easily by Boardman.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Leonidas.

Leonidas is breathing heavily.
Leonidas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Boardman tries to avoid it but Leonidas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Boardman to the ground. Boardman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Leonidas takes a body punch but keeps moving.

and Boardman connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Boardman shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Leonidas eats them both and turns towards Boardman to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Leonidas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Boardman lands a nice hook to Leonidas's body. Leonidas takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Leonidas takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Boardman wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Leonidas shoots for a takedown but Boardman saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Leonidas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Boardman is fending him off so far but Leonidas persists. Nope, Boardman circles away and we're back to standing.
Boardman fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Leonidas looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

and Boardman counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Boardman lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Boardman.

Boardman stalks Leonidas and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Leonidas's face. Leonidas staggers backwards, shaken.

Boardman clobbers Leonidas with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Boardman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
