The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

It looks like Clay French has been cut.
Davis connects with a solid leg kick.
French pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Davis connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed French momentarily.
The fight stays on the outside here - French looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Davis bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of French's head.

French dives in and grabs Davis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Davis pushes down on French's head and hops out.

French shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Davis pinned against the cage. Davis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for French. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

French shoots for a takedown but Davis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! French crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Davis - the referee stops the clock and French gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Davis. French manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Phil Davis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
French gets cracked there but stands up to it.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

French tries to score a power double leg takedown but Davis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten French somewhat.

French tries to close the distance and clinch but Davis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Davis tries to bum rush French with a series of wild strikes but French uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Davis shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. French eats them both and turns towards Davis to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

French chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Davis can pounce on him.
French takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

French is rocked!

Davis lands a nice hook to French's body. French takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Davis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Oh French is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
