Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Niwa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tony Jaa!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Niwa fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jaa avoids it really well and circles away.

Jaa clinches up with Niwa and pushes him back against the cage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Niwa bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Niwa pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Jaa slaps away a takedown attempt from Niwa, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Niwa throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jaa sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Niwa ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Jaa closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Jaa tries to close the distance and clinch up but Niwa swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Niwa wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Niwa cracks Jaa with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Niwa looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Niwa is looking to take a break and control but Jaa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jaa tries to get to full guard but Niwa has control of the leg.
Niwa thows a huge punch but Jaa dodges it nicely.
Niwa thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jaa's head.
Niwa looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jaa with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Niwa seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jaa is trying to control but can't.

Jaa is trying to get back to full guard.
Jaa is looking to control Niwa's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jaa avoid being mounted?

Niwa is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jaa sees it coming and defends easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Niwa lands a nice short elbow.

Niwa is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Jaa is refusing to be controlled, as Niwa sits in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jaa slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Niwa tries to free his leg and advance position but Jaa is retaining full guard.

Jaa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Niwa defends well.
Jaa wants to get back to his feet but Niwa passes into half guard.
Jaa is breathing heavily.

Niwa shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jaa pinned against the cage. Jaa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Jaa wants to clinch up but Niwa keeps it at a distance.

Tony Jaa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jaa throws a low kick but Niwa moves out of range easily.
Jaa misses with a kick to the body.
Niwa fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jaa looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Niwa feints and as Jaa raises his hands in defense, Niwa changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Jaa has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Niwa doesn't defend quickly enough and Jaa has managed to lock this one up! Can Niwa escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Jaa on a fantastic submission victory.
