PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tim Davidson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Braddock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tim Davidson !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James Braddock!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Richard Clark and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Braddock closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Braddock turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Braddock tries to move to full mount but Davidson actually manages to regain half guard.
Braddock perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Davidson actively working from the bottom here.

Davidson looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Braddock with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Braddock trying to pass the guard but Davidson defending well.
Braddock is trying to control. Davidson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

James Braddock has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Davidson .

Braddock clinches up with Davidson and pushes him back against the cage.

Braddock pulls guard effortlessly.
Braddock avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Davidson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Braddock works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Davidson postures up in Braddock's guard and throws a big left but Braddock blocks it.
Davidson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Davidson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Braddock manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Davidson has Braddock in his guard.
Braddock looking to sit in guard and control but Davidson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Braddock pulls Davidson in close to prevent any damage.

Davidson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Braddock looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Braddock looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Braddock!
Davidson wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Braddock controlling the position from side mount.
Davidson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Braddock tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Braddock is looking to take a break and control but Davidson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Braddock dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Davidson tries to keep at a distance but Braddock has taken the fight into the clinch.
Braddock displaying some good clinch control by pressing Davidson up against the cage.

Braddock pulls Davidson into guard.

Davidson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Braddock dives on top into guard.

Davidson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Braddock really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Davidson . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Davidson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Braddock doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Braddock manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Braddock stands up from Davidson 's guard - Braddock perhaps looking for a knockout.
Braddock closes this distance looking for a takedown but Davidson circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davidson tries to bum rush Braddock with a series of wild strikes but Braddock uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Davidson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Braddock's waist but Braddock gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Davidson off to one side.
Davidson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Braddock plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Braddock clinches up against the cage.

Braddock breaks the clinch.

Braddock drives through with a takedown into guard.
Braddock is breathing heavily.

Davidson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Braddock doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Braddock manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Davidson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Braddock controls the pace.

Oh but Davidson is tightening it up a little... Braddock has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Braddock reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Braddock taps out! Nice BJJ there by Davidson !

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Tim Davidson !
