PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sebastien Suarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franc Purc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sebastien Suarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Franc Purc!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Purc gets a double leg takedown into Suarez's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Suarez has his foot on Purc's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Purc works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Purc controlling from the top position.
Suarez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Suarez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Purc doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Purc manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Suarez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Purc defends well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Suarez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Purc gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Purc must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Suarez wants to sweep but no luck.
Purc trying to control but Suarez is working from the bottom.

Suarez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Suarez has a closed guard, preventing Purc from standing up.

Purc looking to sit in guard and control but Suarez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Purc really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Suarez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Suarez throws a big right hand that misses.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Purc is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Suarez defends well.
Purc is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Suarez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Suarez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Suarez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Suarez postures up in Purc's guard and throws a big left but Purc blocks it.
Purc is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Suarez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Purc looking to hit a scissor sweep but Suarez is one step ahead there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Purc utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Purc looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Suarez puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Purc is defending against the submission attempts here by Suarez.
Suarez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Purc's head.
Purc is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Purc avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Suarez.
Purc is trying to stand.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Purc can do anything to dispel that myth.
Purc looks gassed!

Suarez seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sebastien Suarez dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Purc throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Suarez's waist but Suarez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Purc off to one side.
Suarez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Purc avoids it really well and circles away.
Purc throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Purc darts in and clinches Suarez up against the cage.
Suarez is trying to drag Purc to the mat but Purc just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Suarez misses with a hook from the clinch.
Purc holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Suarez has Purc pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Purc manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sebastien Suarez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Purc pulls guard successfully.
