Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Austin Rumble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Melanko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumble comes to the ring accompanied by Click Click Boom. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Austin Rumble!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jay Melanko!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rumble has Melanko up against the ropes in a clinch.

Rumble jumps into guard, dragging Melanko to the mat.
Rumble looking for a sweep. Not yet Rumble, not yet.
Rumble is looking to stand up but Melanko isn't so interested in that idea.

Melanko drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rumble dives on top into guard.

Rumble gets to his feet. Melanko looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Rumble takes the fight into the clinch.

Rumble pulls guard successfully.
Rumble wants to sweep here but Melanko controlling him for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Melanko wants to get up but he can't break Rumble's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Melanko drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rumble looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rumble looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rumble!
Rumble advances nicely into full mount.
Melanko wants to use the ropes to get back to his feet here.
Rumble unloads with some shots from mount but Melanko bucks and avoids them well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Rumble swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Melanko is now in Rumble's guard. A big mistake from Rumble there, giving up the dominant position!
Melanko stands and throws Rumble's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Rumble throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Melanko tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Melanko has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rumble is trying to control Melanko's posture but Melanko avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Melanko goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Rumble rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Melanko's guard! Nice work there by Rumble!
Rumble landing some decent shots from guard.
Rumble controlling from the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Melanko can't keep his opponent in guard - Rumble advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Rumble trying to control the action but Melanko is working from the bottom.

Rumble looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rumble is just content to waste time from the top position. Melanko takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Austin Rumble dominated that round.
That's time! Rumble's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rumble misses with the combination.

Rumble moves into range and clinches up with Melanko.

Rumble gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Rumble looking to sit in guard and control but Melanko gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Austin Rumble overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rumble holds on and takes a little breather.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rumble is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Melanko drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rumble manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Melanko has Rumble in his guard.
Rumble in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rumble is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Austin Rumble wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Rumble looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Rumble decides to return to a standing position.
Rumble tries to move into range but Melanko moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.


It looks like Austin Rumble has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rumble misses with a takedown
and Melanko counters with a left and a right that stings Rumble.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rumble decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rumble wants to lay and pray for a moment but Melanko keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rumble is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Melanko has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Melanko actively working from the bottom here.
Rumble misses with a head shot. Melanko uses the momentum to regain guard.
Rumble trying to control but Melanko is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Rumble scores a takedown into full mount!
Rumble cracks Melanko with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Rumble trying to control but Melanko is having none of it.
Melanko can't escape the position.
Rumble throws some wild stikes that Melanko manages to avoid easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rumble pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Rumble controlling the position easily from mount.
Rumble wants to control the pace but Melanko is squirming around nicely.
Poor strikes thrown by Rumble there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Rumble throws a wild left hand from mount and Melanko manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Melanko is refusing to be controlled, as Rumble sits in half guard.
Rumble stalling away here and it's allowed Melanko to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Rumble controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Austin Rumble wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Melanko lands with a shot to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rumble on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Melanko connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rumble's hands.
Melanko throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Rumble colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Melanko as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Rumble is left battered and dazed whilst Melanko and his camp cheer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:15 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jay Melanko! Jay Melanko retains his heavyweight title!
