Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A cross from Shield lands.
Shield misses with a hook. Helms ducked under it nicely.
Helms thows a body shot but no joy.
Helms drops his hands momentarily and Shield takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Shield throws a hook to the side of Helms's head but Helms sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Shield fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Shield punishes Helms's body with a nice straight punch.
Helms walks into a jab.
Shield misses with a hook. Helms ducked under it nicely.
Shield scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Helms throws a head kick that misses.
Helms takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Helms with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Shield to score with a decent uppercut.

Shield misses with an uppercut. Helms saw that one coming.

Helms has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Shield finds it's way round the side to connect with Helms's head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Shield might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Shield ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Helms moves away.

Shield looks to land a left hand but Helms moved out of range nicely.

Shield is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Helms had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Shield tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Helms manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shield swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Helms.
Helms takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Helms uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Shield.
Shield is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Helms takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Shield tries to close the distance and clinch but Helms swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Shield is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Helms.

Helms throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shield works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Shield is trying to hold Helms in close to prevent damage but Helms has managed to pass into half guard.

Helms is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Shield is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Helms's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Helms's back!

That was a close second round but I would say that Gregory Helms will probably get the nod.

Helms looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Helms turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Helms manages to end up in side control.
Shield is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Shield is pressing down on Helms's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Helms's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Shield wants to hit a switch here but Helms passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Shield there!

The referee warns Shield that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Oooooh, big shot lands for Helms! Shield is hurt baaadly! Helms is firing away with more strikes - Shield is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
