PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Valmir Caliman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Muratti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Muratti is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Limp Bizkit- Break Stuff. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Valmir Caliman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joseph Muratti!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caliman doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Muratti counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Muratti slips nicely into half guard.

Muratti stands up out of the half guard.
Caliman blocks a head kick by Muratti.

Muratti tries to sprawl but Caliman drives through with a takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Caliman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Muratti is just riding it out for now. Caliman eventually gives up the hold.

Caliman seems to be looking for submissions.

Muratti kicks off Caliman and gets to his feet.
Caliman closes the distance and clinches up with Muratti, looking for a takedown. Caliman pushes Muratti against the cage but Muratti circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Muratti feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Muratti tries to free his leg and advance position but Caliman is retaining full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Muratti is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Caliman!

Muratti is working for a guillotine from mount but Caliman frees his head quite easily.

Muratti breaks from Caliman's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Caliman is squirming around, avoiding Muratti's attempts to control the action.
Muratti looking to finish Caliman with some ground and pound. This is bad for Caliman!

Caliman tries to improve his position but instead Muratti has taken his back!
Caliman tries to escape but Muratti has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Caliman is in bad spot here.

You can see the frustration on Caliman's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Muratti is persistently looking for the submission but Caliman is defending it well.
Muratti connects with a big shot to the side of Caliman's head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Caliman tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Caliman is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Muratti has taken his back.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

No luck for Caliman with that takedown attempt.
Caliman shoots in and drives through. Muratti sprawls well.

Caliman manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Muratti on his heels. He'll look to pass Muratti's guard now, I'm sure.

Caliman drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Muratti dives on top into guard.

Muratti must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Caliman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Muratti doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Muratti manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Muratti wants to control from the top but Caliman keeps moving.

Caliman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Caliman manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Muratti bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Caliman has momentary wrist control but Muratti slips an elbow through the middle.

Muratti thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Muratti drops back looking for a leg! Caliman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Caliman manages to kick Muratti off! Muratti jumps back into Caliman's guard.
Caliman wants to sweep but no luck.

Muratti is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Caliman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Muratti manages to get himself to full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Muratti working for a triangle but Caliman defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Caliman stands and throws Muratti's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Caliman has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Muratti is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Caliman yanks on the arm and Muratti is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Caliman.
