PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Taiyo Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Banah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machida kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Machida War Song - Linkin Park. Taiyo Machida has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Taiyo Machida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Damian Banah!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banah takes a kick to the side of the head.
Machida throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Machida fails in his attempt to clinch.

Machida takes the fight into the clinch.

Machida pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Machida gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Banah to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Banah won't allow Machida to get back to his feet.
Machida tries to strike from the bottom.
Machida throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Machida is wriggling around but Banah manages to pass to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Banah seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Machida does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Banah decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Machida wants to clinch up but Banah keeps it at a distance.
Banah throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Taiyo Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Banah throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machida's waist but Machida gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Banah off to one side.
Machida keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Machida tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Banah scores a takedown into full mount!
Machida knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Banah on the ground.
Machida trying desperately to get to his feet.
Machida is breathing heavily.
Banah content just to control the position here.
Machida flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Banah should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Banah takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Machida throwing hammer fists to the chest of Banah. What's that going to do exactly?
Machida on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Machida tries to get out of the position.
Banah controlling from the full mount.
Banah tries to control but Machida wriggling away.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Machida takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Banah with a couple of short strikes.
Machida is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Banah tries to control but Machida wriggling away.
Machida's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Machida is working to get back to half guard.
Banah controlling the pace for now.
Machida is trying to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Machida tries to reverse the position but Banah maintains control.
Banah tries to control but Machida wriggling away.
Machida tries to buck Banah off but he can't manage it.
Banah blocks Machida's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Banah pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Machida has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Good control from Banah.
Will Banah go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Machida wants to get back to his feet.
Banah keeps control of the position easily here as Machida tries to buck him off.
Machida trying to get back to his feet but Banah is in full control for now.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Machida won't enjoy being in this position. Banah looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Machida is tapping - it's over boys! Banah picks up the submission victory!
