PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Boon Baggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manlio Marconi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baggins comes to the cage accompanied by The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins (my hero). Manlio Marconi has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Boon Baggins's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Boon Baggins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Manlio Marconi!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baggins takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Marconi changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Marconi listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Marconi feints a jab promting Baggins to slip. Marconi then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Baggins slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
No luck for Baggins with that takedown attempt.
Baggins throws a leg kick that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marconi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Baggins.
Some bone on bone action there as Baggins checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Marconi throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Baggins shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Marconi as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boon Baggins. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Baggins takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Manlio Marconi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Baggins takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Marconi ducks under a wild hook from Baggins.
Marconi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Baggins moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Marconi throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Baggins gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Baggins fails with the takedown
and Marconi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baggins closes the distance and clinches up with Marconi, looking for a takedown. Baggins pushes Marconi against the cage but Marconi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A punch lands to the side of Baggins 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Marconi scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Marconi lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Baggins shoots for a takedown but Marconi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Marconi ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Marconi lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Marconi scores with a jab to the body.
Marconi with a hook.
Marconi connects with a single shot there.
Baggins misses with a series of wild punches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Marconi displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manlio Marconi dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Baggins looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Marconi scores with a jab to the jaw.
Marconi throws a right and a left that both miss.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Marconi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Baggins. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Marconi lands with a nice body punch.
Manlio Marconi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Marconi lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Baggins at a distance.
Marconi scores with a body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baggins on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Baggins throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marconi's waist but Marconi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Baggins off to one side.
Marconi lands a nice shot that snaps Baggins's head back.
Baggins misses with an uppercut
and Marconi counters with a nice uppercut.


Baggins is rocked!
Marconi misses the jab.
Oh Baggins is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Marconi throws a jab but it's blocked by Baggins.
Baggins backs away from a small jab... but Marconi lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Baggins crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Marconi with a spectacular finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Manlio Marconi!
