PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luther King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Kelly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luther King!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King darts in trying to clinch

and Kelly decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in King's guard.
King is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
King is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
King is looking to pass Kelly's guard but actually Kelly recovers to full guard.
King wants to control from the top but Kelly keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King stops Kelly from standing up.
Kelly has his hands on King's head, controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kelly looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Kelly has his foot on King's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. King works his way back into a safe position though.
King wants to get up but he can't break Kelly's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

King lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kelly pulls King in close to prevent any damage.
King throws a big right hand that misses.
King is fighting to break Kelly's control of his arms but Kelly is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Justin Kelly.
King wants to clinch but Kelly slips to the side

and Kelly counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Kelly looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
King throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Justin Kelly has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
King fails with an attempt to clinch.
King lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kelly circles away quickly and effectively.
Luther King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kelly throws a wild body kick that King sees coming a mile off.
King is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Justin Kelly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
King wants to clinch.
King scores with a jab to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
King throws a sloppy head kick and Kelly moves out of range easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kelly throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kelly throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and King counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kelly keeps the fight on the outside.
Kelly looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sloppy strikes from King. Those never looked like landing.
Nice takedown defense from King. No joy for Kelly on that attempt.
King scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
King tries to clinch but Kelly moves out of range.
Kelly throws a sloppy head kick and King moves out of range easily.
King doesn't manage to clinch there - Kelly circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
King misses with a kick to the body.

Kelly throws a combination that misses
and King counters with a stiff right hand.

Kelly decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
King is looking for a sweep. Kelly is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kelly prevents King from standing back up.

Kelly is keen to just control but King is a slippery customer.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Kelly gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
King feints a jab promting Kelly to slip. King then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Kelly slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
King tries to clinch but Kelly is having none of it.
King pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Kelly back to the cage. King follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
King displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kelly.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Kelly. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd cheers as King lands an impressive looking overhand right. Kelly doesn't seem phased though.
King lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by King.
King pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Danga de danga de dang - King scores with a four punch combination!
King tries a head kick but it misses.

King doesn't manage to clinch there - Kelly circles away.
A nice combination there by King.
King moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
King gets in close and tags Kelly with a short punch that almost sends Kelly to the mat! Oh Kelly is in big trouble! He turns his back on King, trying to create some distance but King rushes him, striking wildly and Kelly goes down! The referee tackles King into the cage to end the fight! King is one violent man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Luther King!
