PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chev Chelios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jowdi Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chelios comes into the arena with In Waves blaring out of the sound system. Jowdi Marshall told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chev Chelios!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Jowdi Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshall throws an off balance right hand
and Chelios counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Chelios slips a jab and a cross from Marshall.

Chelios clinches up with Marshall and pushes him back against the cage.
Marshall has had enough of the clinch but Chelios keeps him there for the moment.

Marshall escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Marshall is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Marshall throws a right and a left that both miss.
Chelios lands a really nice looking cross but Marshall seems unphased.
Marshall defending well as Chelios loads up on a big left hand.
Marshall looks to land a left hand but Chelios moved out of range nicely.
Marshall misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Marshall throws a hook to the side of Chelios's head but Chelios sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Chelios tries to clinch there but Marshall circles away.
Marshall misses with a jab to the body
and Chelios connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Chelios connects with a body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Chelios looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Marshall throws a lazy uppercut
and Chelios counters with a body kick.
Chelios waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Marshall.
Nice shot lands for Chelios.
Chelios uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Marshall.
Chelios jabs Marshall to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Marshall lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chelios circles away quickly and effectively.
Chelios throws a hook to the side of Marshall's head but Marshall sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Marshall drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Marshall fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Chelios manages to avoid it.
Chelios moves out of range of the strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Chelios moves out of range as Marshall strikes.
Chelios scores with a decent looking hook.

Marshall is rocked!
Chelios throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Marshall is still on wobbly legs! Can Chelios finish him?
Marshall seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Chelios shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Marshall is backing up but Chelios catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Marshall covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Chelios Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chev Chelios!
Chev Chelios got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
