PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Boondock Saint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richie Sambora (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saint kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is I'm Shipping Up To Boston. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Sano and Shigeki Fujiwara.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good shot there by Saint.
Saint scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Saint looks for a takedown but Sambora sprawls well.
Saint tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Saint is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sambora sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Sambora rushes Saint and presses him up against the cage.

Sambora breaks the clinch.
Saint steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sambora.

and Sambora decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Saint's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boondock Saint. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sambora gets to his feet - Saint follows without any prompting.
Sambora checks the leg kick.

and Sambora counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Saint's guard now.
Sambora postures up in Saint's guard and throws a big left but Saint blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sambora stays in close to Saint's body and controls the position.
Saint tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Saint is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Saint looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Saint is trying to keep Sambora in close.

Saint has his foot on Sambora's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sambora works his way back into a safe position though.
Sambora is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Saint escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sambora gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Saint is on top in guard.
Sambora is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Sambora kicks Saint off and gets to his feet.

Sambora feints and as Saint raises his hands in defense, Sambora changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sambora looks gassed!

Sambora stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Saint shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sambora as he jumps to the side.
Sambora closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Sambora defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Saint.
Sambora misses with a wild body shot.
A right-left combo lands from Saint.
Saint shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sambora but Sambora pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Sambora scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Saint gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Saint is pressing down on Sambora's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Saint is trying to control the position but Sambora postures up.
Saint manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sambora manages to get himself to full guard.

Saint is pushing down on Sambora's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sambora is fighting to maintain full guard but Saint has managed to sneak the leg through.

Sambora really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Saint. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Saint frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Saint jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sambora manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Saint cracks Sambora with a big right hand but Sambora just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Saint has hold of Sambora's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Sambora seems comfortable defending it but Saint has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Sambora is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Sambora is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Saint couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Boondock Saint!
A very excited looking Boondock Saint rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
