PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Blake McIntosh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tiago Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez has chosen Trap Door as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Tiago Mendez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Blake McIntosh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tiago Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from McIntosh does no damage.

McIntosh scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

McIntosh decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

McIntosh bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez pushes McIntosh away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, McIntosh gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
McIntosh really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mendez is trying to get back to half guard.
McIntosh wants to stand but Mendez is controlling his arm.
McIntosh is breathing heavily.

Mendez explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
McIntosh misses with a straight right.
Blake McIntosh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McIntosh fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
McIntosh tries to land a front kick but Mendez steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Mendez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McIntosh looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendez is staying tight to McIntosh's torso, preventing him from escaping.
McIntosh tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McIntosh is trying to get back to his feet but Mendez has full control of the position and if anything, McIntosh has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Mendez has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, McIntosh has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
McIntosh is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

McIntosh is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
McIntosh is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Mendez is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. McIntosh is defending well though. Mendez let's go of the attempt for now.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Mendez's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Mendez has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
McIntosh staying busy and making it hard for Mendez to control.
What can McIntosh do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Mendez is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but McIntosh has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Mendez is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. McIntosh has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Mendez has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! McIntosh taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Mendez doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Tiago Mendez!
