Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Penl!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tony Twister!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penl closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Twister to the mat! Twister manages to get full guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Penl missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Penl tries to free his leg and advance position but Twister is retaining full guard.
Penl has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Twister is proving hard to escape from.
Twister working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Penl.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Twister has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Penl can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Penl drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Twister dives on top into guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Twister shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Penl as he jumps to the side.
Penl goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Nice takedown defense from Penl. No joy for Twister on that attempt.
Penl looks to land a right hand but Twister moved out of range.
Twister scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Twister tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Penl swivels and escapes.

Twister feints and as Penl raises his hands in defense, Twister changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penl is trying to stand back up but Twister is controlling him
Penl tries to roll over but Twister keeps him under control.

Penl makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Penl fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Twister, pushing him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Penl's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Twister misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Penl breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Twister throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Penl clinches with his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Twister fails to pull guard.

Penl bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Penl tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Twister tries for a takedown but Penl sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Penl slaps away a takedown attempt from Twister, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Penl darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Twister slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Twister has his foot on Penl's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Penl works his way back into a safe position though.

No joy there for Penl, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Twister fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Well Penl has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
